AVAILABLE POSITIONS

FARM CREW
All Root Down Farm employees will receive training in all aspects of the farm including, but not limited to, seeding, transplanting, weeding, cultivating, field preparation, crop maintenance, harvest, wash and packing, and light construction. Most employees fall into the "Farm Crew" position, but we do have managerial positions that are filled for the season and apprentice positions that are available. We encourage employees to find areas on the farm that interest them most in order to develop a deeper knowledge of that aspect of farm management. Positions can be quite diverse with part or full-time positions made up of any number of roles and responsibilities so we encourage people of all backgrounds and interests to apply.

Hours
Part-time or Full-time April 14, 2025 - October 31, 2025

Full-time positions are M-F or 4 days a week, start time ranges from 8-9am depending on the season and days are about 8.5 hours

Part-time positions are very flexible and can be part days or full days
Opportunities for part-time February - May and November - December

Job Summary
Crew Members are involved in multiple aspects of the farm including transplanting, weeding, harvesting, washing and packing produce. There is also greenhouse and high tunnel work including seeding, watering, trellising and turning beds. In addition to our CSA, we have wholesale accounts which require harvest, packing and delivering for. If you have interest in or experience with tractors then you would also be helping with field prep, bed forming, transplanting, and cover cropping.
The farm work environment is uptempo and requires the physical capability to contribute daily in a rigorous, fast paced setting. Farm work is incredibly rewarding, yet physically demanding.

Compensation

Pay is commensurate with experience starting at $19/hour for people with applicable experience (applicable experience includes landscaping, greenhouse work, other jobs requiring physical labor, etc.).

Raises are based on experience and performance

2% of gross income as a SIMPLE IRA contribution for returning employees

Sick pay accrued at 1 hr per 52 worked

Annual gear stipend of $200 for returning employees

Weekly produce including fruit from area orchards

Cost of Living annual raise for returning employees

Responsibilities
Transplant, Harvest, and Cultivation Teams

Effectively and efficiently carry out day to day field activities such as: bed prep, transplanting, weeding, and harvesting.
Wash/Pack Team

Effectively and efficiently carry out day to day harvesting, washing and produce packaging activities.
Additional Roles
-
Option to add specialized responsibilities through taking on additional roles. Each position can include as few or as many Roles as makes sense based on experience and schedule. This will be a discussion during the interview process.

Qualifications
We are looking for reliable, responsible, and hardworking individuals who are able to follow directions and communicate well with the crew. Must be able to work in all weather conditions (some gear provided by the farm). A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to and from the farm are required. We love what we do, and we want a farm crew that gets along well! We enjoy having fun while also getting a lot of stuff done at the same time!
